RAHS girls hockey reaches end of regular season

The Roseville Area High School girls hockey team has reached the final week of the regular season and has three games to use as tune-ups for the playoffs. The Raiders and the rest of the teams in Section 4AA open the post-season next weekend.

Roseville enters the final week having won four of its last six games and with the possibility of finishing as high as second in the Suburban East Conference standings. The only team the Raiders can't catch in the SEC is Cretin-Derham Hall, which is two points away from clinching the conference title.

Roseville closes out the conference schedule with home games against White Bear Lake on Jan. 26 and East Ridge on Jan. 30. Third-place White Bear leads the Raiders by one point in the conference standings. Forest Lake is in second place with 20 points, meaning the best Roseville could do is tie the Rangers.

Also on this week's schedule is a non-conference road game at Braemar Arena against third-ranked Edina.

Roseville has won three games in a row twice this season. The first streak came in early December and the other was snapped just last week. After beating Woodbury, Park-Cottage Grove and Stillwater, Roseville visited Cretin-Derham Hall on Jan. 21 and lost 5-0.

Allyson Reilly has been Roseville's scoring leader most of the season. She is tops on the team with respect to goals (21), assists (12) and points (33). Madison Gaffney is second in goals with 12 and Kathryn Larson is second in assists with 11.

In net, Corrina Pierson has done the bulk of the work having played about 70 percent of the goaltender minutes. She is 6-8 with a goals-against average of 2.89 and a save percentage of .900.

The Section 4AA playoffs kick off Feb. 5 with two quarterfinals at Roseville Arena. The other two quarterfinals are Feb. 6 at the St. Croix Valley Rec Center in Stillwater. The semifinals are Feb. 9 at Aldrich Arena and the finals are back at Roseville on Feb. 11.
