Indoor orienteering

From 2 to 4 p.m., July 22, learn how to use a compass and map to navigate through the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N. This will be open to kids ages 8 to 14.  

 

Campfire Songs and Stories

Join Dodge Nature Center for songs and stories around the campfire. Hear funny stories, tall tales and outright lies. Join in singing some classic campfire sing-alongs, then roast a marshmallow or two, or more. This will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 22 at Dodge’s Farm Education Entrance 3, 1701 Charlton St., in West St. Paul. The cost is $7. Science Monday: 

Slither into the world of reptiles by touching, holding, and feeding some scaly critters. Learn what makes reptiles unique and get an up-close look at some of nature’s most misunderstood creatures. Presented by Snake Discovery, this is for kids ages 2 to 12. Sponsored by the Friends of the Inver Glen Library, it will run from 1 to 1:45 p.m., July 22 at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E.

 

Look What I Almost Stepped In

Join a Dodge Nature Center naturalist to explore and get hands-on experience with a different nature topic or animal each month at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E. The next session will be July 23 from 10 to 11 a.m.

 

Terrific Tuesdays

Terrific Tuesday will be in South Valley Park, 2980 70th St., July 23 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for Story and a Squad. Come celebrate with Inver Grove Heights Parks and Recreation on these free, fun family days. No registration is required.

 

Swimming Under the Stars

Swimming Under the Stars takes place every Wednesday at Northview Pool, 635 18th Ave. N. Sponsored and facilitated by the South St. Paul Mayor’s Youth Task Force, there is music, prizes and even some swimming. The cost is $2, and parents with kids get in for free. Pool passes are not valid during this private party. 

 

Kidsdance DJ

Grown-ups and kids alike will enjoy this fun dance party featuring the family-friendly Kidsdance on July 24 at 6:30 p.m., in Mendakota Park, 2171 Dodd Road. This is an interactive DJ experience playing new music and classics with tons of activities to get everyone moving.

 

Ice Cream Social and JAM Band

Come and top your ice cream with chocolate, strawberry or caramel.  Enjoy the music and dancing while socializing with friends over a bowl of ice cream.  If weather permits, this event will take place at Thompson Park Picnic Shelter, otherwise at the center.  Ice cream will by served from 1 to 1:30 pm.  No registration is needed for this event on July 24, which will run from 1 to 3 p.m., at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. Donations will be accepted.

 

Chinese brush painting

Learn to paint Chinese characters, animals, and natural subjects and scenes on rice paper using bamboo brushes and ink. Presented by Artistry, registration is required for this event on July 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Open to ages 8 to 15, it will take place at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N. Summer Strolling

Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, is located on acreage with numerous trails both long and short, each deserving to be walked upon. Come and join others for a leisurely stroll, void of speed or difficulty, but done simply for enjoyment and peaceful conversation as desired.  There will be no pressure to keep up, no need to break a sweat, simply come and enjoy the outdoors. Refreshments will be available around the picnic tables following the stroll. Registration is required for this free series, which runs from 9 to 9:45 a.m., on Fridays.
