Sip and Spell

The South St. Paul Library will host Sip and Spell Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m., at the Croation Hall, 44 Second Ave. S. Rather than a traditional spelling bee, this competition will be points based. Up to 12 teams will spell words in costume to compete for a good cause, trophy and bragging right. There is a $30 registration fee per team, and proceeds will go to the library’s A Book For Every Child campaign. Through this campaign, the library is able to provide new books to children of all ages as part of the holiday program at Neighbor’s Inc. Free Technology support 

Visit TPAC’s Learning Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, in West St. Paul for computer, smartphone and tablet mentoring. No appointments are needed. Bring your own laptop/phone/tablet or use one of the computers there. Mentors will individually help you with your questions. Learn computer basics to more advanced skills. This is open on Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Flying and fundraising

It’s a day of Living History Flights and unbelievable deals at part II of the Hangar Sale to raise money for the Minnesota Air Force Minnesota Wing OPERATION: FACELIFT effort to restore our hangar. Book a flight on one of the historic aircraft, or just come tour the aircraft and museum, and pick up a bargain for a great cause. Book your flights at the ticket link. Waggin’ Tales

From 11 a.m. to noon, Aug. 17, bring your kids into the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave., to read to certified therapy dogs. It’s not only fun, it helps develop reading skills and fluency. This is for kids ages 5 to 10.

 

Bogey with the Red and Blue

Due to inclement weather on the original date, this event is rescheduled for Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. The cost is $15 per participant. Join the MH Police and Fire Departments for a recreational round of golf at the Par 3. Meet and mingle with officers and firefighters who serve your neighborhood. Groups are welcome to register together, and groups/participants without foursomes may be paired with others for play. All ages are welcome. Art exhibit 

First Presbyterian Church, 535 20th Ave. N., in South St. Paul currently has WE ARE: 2065 on display. South Minneapolis Artist Joanna Hallstrom painted 16 oil portraits of Minnesota students during this time period and recorded their thoughts about life now and what things might be like in 2065, combining the two into a freestanding interactive exhibit. As you walk through you actually hear the students thoughts in their own voices. Leave a message on the church’s Facebook page or at the church office at 651-451-6223 for more information, for group tours, or to inquire about other times. For individuals, the office is open 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Turtles

Join a Dodge Nature Center naturalist Aug. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. to explore and get hands-on experience with a different nature topic or animal each month. This month’s topic is turtles and will be at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave E.

 

Food Truck Day

The final Inver Grove Heights Food Truck Day will be Aug. 14 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Rich Valley Athletic Complex, 1841 105th St. E. This will be held rain or shine. For additional event information, please visit www.invergroveheights.org/foodtruckdays. 

 

Paper mosaics

Make beautiful mosaic designs by cutting and tearing brightly-colored craft paper and arranging the pieces on tag board. Discover the interesting designs, patterns and pictures that form when you glue the pieces in place and add decoration. Presented by Artistry, registration is required. Open to kids ages 11 to 17, this will run from 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 14 at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. Call 651-554-6800 for more information.

 

 

 

Pizza in the Grove  

Faith United Methodist Church will have wood fired pizzas made to order available, games to play, s’mores made in a fire pit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 15.  There will also be people available to talk about the Neighbors Garden. Make Your Own Merit Badges

Craft merit badges using felt to celebrate your unique skills and talents from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 15. Intended for kids ages 11 to 17, this will take place at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N. For more information, call 651-554-3240.

 

Picnic operetta

Mixed Precipitation will present a lively and fun musical adaptation of an operetta with edible delights throughout the performance at Dodge Nature Center’s Farm Entrance, 1701 Charlton St., in West St. Paul Aug. 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for this family friendly musical evening.
