Inver Grove Heights delays splitting up city land


courtesy of City of Inver Grove Heights • The Inver Grove Heights City Council voted Aug. 13 to delay splitting up a portion of city-owned land, outlined in black, after residents raised concerns about the move. A plot that would have been created was to be purchased and used by AmericInn Hotel and Suites for a park and ride; the hotel currently has overflow parking at a nearby AMC Theatre.

The Inver Grove Heights City Council voted Aug. 13 to delay dividing up a piece of city-owned land along Highway 52, that would have been used as a hotel park and ride.

Maplewood mosque vandalized in possible hate crime

Maplewood Police are working to identify two young men who were caught on security footage as they vandalized a Maplewood mosque around 1:30 a.m. on July 29.

Local WWII vet gets replica Congressional Gold Medal


Copyright 2018 Lou Michaels • Over the years, Robert Holmstrom was awarded several military medals and commendations for his service in World War II, including the Croix de Guerre by the French government. In March, he and other OSS members collectively received the highest civilian honor when Congress presented them the Congressional Gold Medal, and on Aug. 6 U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum presented Holmstrom with a replica of that medal.

World War II veteran Robert Holmstrom of Maplewood was formally honored by U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum when she presented him a replica Congressional Gold Medal at her St. Paul office Aug. 6 for his part in the victory of the Allied forces.
