Inver Grove Heights school district hones in on potential new start times


courtesy Inver Grove Heights Schools • Inver Grove Heights Schools is looking at possibly switching the start and end times of its elementary and secondary schools. This would put the start time of secondary students in better alignment with research that shows later start times are better for their sleep habits. The change, which would need to be approved by the ISD 199 school board, wouldn’t take effect until the 2019-2020 school year.

L’Etoile students get hands-on in the neighborhood

The students have been working with the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District all year on various water quality projects.

East Side fifth-grade students become published poets


Cover art courtesy of Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute • Fifth-grade students from John A. Johnson Elementary are now published authors after spending the school year writing and editing poems. Their work is appearing in an anthology called “The Bold, Untold North,” through the help of creative writing and tutoring nonprofit the Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute.

Anyone can be a writer and everyone’s voice matters is a lesson that John A. Johnson Elementary school students have been learning throughout the school year.

Voters pass $117 million building bond in ISD 197

On May 8, voters in the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan School District 197 passed a bond referendum for $117 million. It was approved with 62 percent of the vote.

Mendota Heights greenlights more invasive plant removal, prairie restoration


file photo • The Mendota Heights City Council approved plans May 1 for prairie management at the Pilot Knob Preservation Open Space, as well as invasive plant species removal at two other parks.

On May 1, the Mendota Heights City Council approved plans for more work to be done on removing invasive plant species from Valley Park and Rogers Lake Park, as well as continued work at the Pilot Knob Preservation Open Space.

St. Thomas Academy takes second in state competition

St. Thomas Academy took second place at the Minnesota Personal Finance Decathlon state championship on April 18 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
