‘Granny flats’ could be coming to East Side


Courtesy of the City of St. Paul • St. Paul city staff is looking at expanding the use of accessory dwelling units to select East Side neighborhoods. Commonly known as “mother-in-law apartments” or “granny-flats,” accessory dwelling units are small, separate apartments that can be created within an existing structure, as a separate, small dwelling, or on top of a garage.

The St. Paul City Council voted to begin a study of the use of accessory dwelling units in select parts of the city during its meeting on Feb. 7.

Former IGH Rainbow building to become special education school


Hannah Burlingame/Review • A new special education school got the go-ahead from the Inver Grove Heights City Council Feb. 26 to move into the space that once housed the Rainbow Foods at 9015 Broderick Blvd.

The long vacant building that used to house Rainbow Foods in Inver Grove Heights has been given the green light for a new tenant.

This year there were 167 candidates for the Minnesota Teacher of the Year award. That initial field, the third-highest number in the award’s 54-year history, has been cut to 43 semifinalists, as announced Feb.

West St. Paul council decides to close municipal golf course
